Epoxy or polyaspartic: which is better for a garage?
Epoxy is the strong, well-priced base that bonds to prepared concrete. Polyaspartic is a faster-curing, UV-stable topcoat that resists yellowing, so it is often used over epoxy where there is sun. Many garage systems use both.
Why does prep matter so much?
Epoxy bonds to a properly ground, clean slab. Most coating failures trace back to skipped prep.
Can moisture in the concrete be a problem?
Yes. Moisture vapour can lift or blister coatings, which is why the slab is checked on site and, where needed, a moisture-mitigating primer is used.
How much does an epoxy floor cost?
Price depends on square footage, slab condition and finish, so we give a range first and confirm the real number at a free on-site measurement. Use the estimator for a range.
Will epoxy turn yellow in the sun?
Standard epoxy can amber with UV exposure. For sun-facing garages, patios and decks, a UV-stable polyaspartic or aliphatic topcoat is the usual remedy.
Can new concrete be coated right away?
New slabs are usually left to cure for around four weeks before coating, and moisture is tested first.
Do I need HOA approval?
Interior garage floors often do not need it, but exterior coatings may. Check your CC&Rs and association rules before you schedule.
